Airstream dealers are a good place to start looking, especially for late-model Airstream travel trailers

When it comes to RVs, there aren't many names that are bigger or better-loved than Airstream – and with good reason. They're well-made, there's a large product range, and they offer quality and comfort.

Airstream travel trailers also hold their value better than most RVs. The question for most people is not whether an Airstream is a good buy, but where to find Airstream dealers they can trust.

You've come to the right place if that's what you're wondering, because in this article, we're looking at where you can buy Airstream travel trailers, including used Airstreams and repossessed RVs.

The Airstream Dealers Network

The good news, if you are in the market for a new Airstream, is that there is an extensive network of Airstream traders out there. In fact, you will find dealers in the USA, Canada, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Japan, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the UK.

You can find official Airstream dealers in any of those countries right on the company website, simply by using the Dealer Locator function. It could not be simpler.

However, while it may be easy to find official, licensed Airstream dealerships and agents that offer new Airstream travel trailers and RVs, you might find it a little harder to find used models for sale.

Used Airstream Travel Trailers

Finding used Airstreams may be a little trickier than checking out your nearest official agent for Airstream travel trailers. However, it can be done in several ways:

  • Look for used RV dealers in your area. Since Airstream is such a big name in RVs, it is likely that at least a few dealers in any given area will have at least one or two used Airstream travel trailers at any given time.
  • Contact official Airstream dealers, and find out about second-hand options. Often, these dealers stay in contact with their customers, and it is likely that they will know about great used Airstreams well before they ever make the classifieds.
  • Contact auction houses in your area. Every once in a while, Airstreams are among the repossessed RVs they have on auction, and you could find that you get a great deal on a barely used RV if you go this route.
  • Look online. You may not find Airstream dealers per se, but there is a good chance you will find second-hand RV dealers who have Airstreams among their inventory.
  • Look on eBay. Yes, you read that right! You will find people offering used Airstreams for sale on eBay, and there are both auction and Buy It Now options.
  • Trawl online classifieds. Often, people who are upgrading their Airstream travel trailers will offer their older models at bargain basement prices. A little patience, great caution (there are scammers out there), and dedication can get you a world class RV at a fraction of the price Airstream dealers are advertising them for.

These are not the only options for finding Airstream traders and Airstream travel trailers either. Newspapers, community notice boards, and other options are also out there, and there is every chance you can find great repossessed or used Airstreams by any number of methods.

You could even place a "Wanted" ad in the same places, and see who bites. Times are tough, and buyers of used Airstreams may be thin on the ground. You could flush out a bargain.

Tips for Buying Used Airstreams

If you are in the market for used Airstreams (or any other type of used or repossessed RVs for that matter), there are a few things you need to bear in mind before you put your hard earned cash down and drive off into the sunset:

  • If you are not buying from one of the approved Airstream traders out there, make sure that the company you are dealing with is reputable, and that you are getting the genuine article.
  • NEVER buy any RV sight-unseen! This should be common sense...
  • Consider speaking to an Airstream travel trailers specialist, and having them accompany you on your shopping trip. They will be able to point out any potential problems that could cost you money down the line.
  • Research the Airstream travel trailers you are considering buying. If you're not buying from one of the approved Airstream dealers out there, there's a chance that you might get a model that's discontinued, or difficult to find parts and servicing for – you don't want to have major expenses or delays every time you need a minor repair done, do you?
  • Research the particular RV you are considering buying. Make sure that repossessed RVs genuinely are repossessed, and that you are buying them from the finance company, and that the RV has a clear title. It is not unheard of for people who have fallen behind on RV payments to resell their Airstream travel trailers while they are still under a loan agreement. When they default on their loan payments, you risk having your RV repossessed.
  • Compare the price of used Airstreams (and other RVs) with the cost of new models. There should be a significant cost saving in buying used when you compare the price to a new model, or dealer ex-demo.

The Benefits of Buying Used Airstreams

Now that you know how to go about finding Airstream dealers, and where to find used Airstreams and repossessed RVs, we should look at the benefits of buying second hand, versus new.

The first benefit is cost. A used Airstream is going to cost you a lot less than a new Airstream, simply because of depreciation. If you are on a budget, this is a good way to get one of the best RVs out there, without breaking the bank.

The second benefit is that you are getting an Airstream! There is a reason there are so many Airstream dealers out there, around the world. That is because this is, quite simply, one of the very best RV brands out there – whether you are talking used Airstreams or new. Some might even argue that a used Airstream is a better deal than a new RV from a lesser manufacturer.

Finally, there is the fact that people who buy new Airstreams from Airstream dealers are likely to believe in quality, and in taking care of their assets. Chances are, a used Airstream is going to be in great condition, because it will have been carefully cared for by its previous owner.

Whether you choose new or used, buy from a private seller or one of the many Airstream dealers out there, chances are as long as you are careful, you are making a great investment. Airstream travel trailers and RVs are a great buy, and you are sure to have many years of happy travels in one.
